Hair

During treatment and beyond, hair loss can be very distressing during treatment. See below for product recommendations during treatment and after treatment. If you are interested in preventing hair loss during chemotherapy, click below to learn more about cold capping.

During treatment

What can I expect regarding hair loss?

If not cold capping, hair loss typically occurs a few weeks into the first cycle.

Many describe the hair feeling "painful" and heavy a few weeks after the first infusion. For this reason many decide to shave their scalp a few weeks after treatment or before treatment to decrease symptoms.  To make this transition less distressing, many opt to go for a shorter style prior to starting chemo.  An electric razor will be less traumatic to the scalp skin.

If cold capping, the companies suggest actually not dramatically cutting your hair or it will "shock" the hair bulb as it is used to its previous weight. I got a trim prior to starting chemotherapy.
